These step-by-step instructions will show you how to back up your presets and system configuration to a device, and how to reload those backups to your controller. This can be done either on a phone, tablet, or a computer. Save a backup of your presets and system configuration if you have put significant effort into custom presets or if you need to replace your control chip.
Backup
Create a backup copy of your presets or system configuration by opening the WLED app and selecting the configuration menu in the top right of your screen. Scroll to the bottom of the configuration menu and select ‘Security & Updates’.

In the ‘Security & Updates’ menu scroll down to the ‘Backup & Restore’ section. Here you see two different backup buttons, one for presets (highlighted below) and one for configuration. Select the backup button for what you want to back up. In this tutorial we are demonstrating backing up presets but the same process is used for the system configuration. Once you select ‘Backup Presets’ you will see a confirmation that the download was completed. Now there is a file saved to device containing the backup information.

Restore
When you need to restore your presets or your system configuration follow the same steps above to the ‘Backup & Restore’ section of the ‘Security & Updates’ menu. Select ‘Choose File’ as highlighted below. As a reminder this example shows restoring presets, to restore the system configuration select ‘Choose File’ in that section. Selecting ‘Choose File’ should take you to your device file manager. You may need to search for the backup files in multiple locations depending on where your device is set to save files. Typically, this is in your ‘Downloads’ folder so begin there.

In the case shown here the file was saved in the ‘On My Phone’ folder. For Apple IOS users there will be a folder labeled ‘wled-native’. On all devices the actual file should be named ‘wled_presets_LED Home Lighting.json’ as shown below. Select this file.

You will be able to see the file name loaded as shown below. Select ‘Upload’ and you will get confirmation that your file has been uploaded. Select ‘Save’ at the top of the screen.
